Jen's Senior Session

I'm celebrating the holidays in Cincinnati this year, so I was honored when my fiancee's cousin Jen asked me to take her senior portraits for her while I was here. We had lots of fun scouting out new locations and braving the cold to get some great shots! Jen will be heading off to college this fall and we couldn't be happier for her.

Rocky's Senior Session

Yesterday I got to do something a little bit outside my comfort zone when Rocky and his cousin Jen (coming up next) asked me to do some senior portraits for them! They were real troopers for putting up with the cold and traipsing through the snow.

Rocky is a senior in Dayton, Ohio, who will soon be off to culinary school, where he hopes to specialize as a pastry chef. He certainly looks right at home in his chef's coat! Enjoy a few of my favorites from our session!

Today the Baltimore area got a light dusting of snow, which is known around here as a Snow Emergency and generally causes all sorts of Havoc. Christmas came early for me this year! Thursday night I rushed home to find a package I had been eagerly anticipating: my new sample album from Irisbook! This is such an amazing album, and I can't wait to share it with my clients! I especially love the names stamped on the front and the funky marble pages on the front and back inside covers. One cold day last weekend, I had a chance to photograph Eryn and Jill again! They are another repeat client from last year and I was so excited to see how they have grown and changed in the last year. Their mom suggested meeting at The Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens at Druid Hill Park, because it was a tad chilly, and what a cool spot it was! If you haven't been, I highly recommend it. I was so excited when I got a call to shoot these 3 cuties again! You might recognize Miss Libby from my homepage - I photographed her and her two rambunctious brothers last year, so I was thrilled when they asked me to come back this year to get some images for their annual Christmas cards, especially since their mom Heather just launched a new stationary business! You can tell from these images what a whirlwind session it was, and I love how you can see their personalities shining through! And don't let that bow fool you, with two older brothers, Miss Libby is going to be one tough cookie!

I met up with these two adorable boys and their parents on Halloween morning! They had a great time on the playground, and I even got a few shots of just their parents alone. Like many moms and dads, they don't have many photos of just the two of them after their wedding photos! Lauren and Dave are getting married next May at the Pratt Library, and I couldn't be more excited! These two, who met while working at a civil engineering firm (Lauren has her degree in Urban Planning) put a lot of thought into where they wanted to do their engagement session, and came up with the fantastic idea to do it in Woodberry. Katelyn & Edward were married yesterday in beautiful Plymouth, NH. Edward is my fiancee's cousin, so while I got to shoot their wedding, I also got to party it up with my soon-to-be extended family! The Common Man Inn in Plymouth, NH was such a cool spot. The room where Katelyn got ready was the "Camp" room, which comes complete with an antique canoe above the bed! Katelyn & Edward opted to do a "First Look," which I always think is a great moment, and gave us lots of time to explore the area and get some great pictures before the ceremony. Katelyn was a real trooper to get out there in the cold in her dress! Katelyn & Edward, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your day! Leanne & Rugby: Married!

Over labor day weekend, my good friends Leanne and Rugby (or Andy, as he is sometimes known), tied the knot in a beautiful destination wedding at Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Asheville, NC. Leanne is lucky enough to have 2 fabulous wedding photographer friends, so I got to shoot alongside the lovely St. Louis-based Beth Berry for the day!

Leanne and Rugby's wedding was one of my favorites for the same reason that Leanne and Rugby are one of my favorite couples. They thought of every detail, and incorporated local elements (their favors were apple butter!) into their wedding. They were surrounded by family and friends who traveled from all across the country to celebrate with them. Most importantly, though, they were, and are, absolutely smitten with each other. I hope these photos do some justice to the love that radiated from these two all day.

Leanne and Andy, it was an absolute honor and privilege to witness and capture your beautiful day. May every day of your married lives be as happy as this one.

Lori & Melissa: Married!

Last week, my friends and neighbors Lori and Melissa honored me by asking me to document their wedding at the DC Superior Court. I once heard a wedding toast about how the bride and groom were perfect "complements." This couldn't be more true of Lori and Melissa. When either one of them was feeling anxious, the other was calm and reassuring. We had such fun, just waiting for their ceremony. After the ceremony, we headed out to the streets of DC, where they braved one of the last hot days of summer to get a few "Just Married" shots.

Lori and Melissa, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your happiness on your wedding day. I couldn't help but smile as I looked through the images, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Kaitlyn & Chris: Married!

Kaitlyn & Chris (or, Chraitlyn, as they are known to some) are one of the happiest couples you'll ever meet. Kaitlyn was adamant throughout the planning process that I get a picture of Chris' reaction when he first saw her coming down the aisle, and now I can see why! Chris was absolutely beaming with pride. Their day went off without a hitch, despite a bit of rain, and after a beautiful ceremony everyone headed over to the Maryland Yacht Club where DJ Dan Huynh kept the dance floor packed!

Welcome to a new feature here on The Blog! It's called Meet the Vendor and, as the name would suggest, it's a chance for you to get to know other local wedding vendors here in the Baltimore/DC area. This week, meet Amy Epstein, owner and creative genius behind Crimson & Clover Floral Design. Originally located on Boston Street in Baltimore's Canton neighborhood, Amy recently relocated her studio to a brand new space in Roland Park, and I have to say it's an absolute visual dream! You can tell Amy put as much thought into designing her studio as she does into all of her designs. Her new space has a walk-in cooler where you can browse available stems (kick off your weekend with half price off all stems during Friday "happy hour!"), gifts galore, a cozy area for client consults, and my personal favorite, a candy bar (!!!). Enjoy my Q & A session with Amy, and a quick look inside her new studio!

Q: How did you get started in floral design?
A: I had always wanted to work in a flower shop since I was little because it just seems like such a fun, happy atmosphere to be in. Unfortunately I didn't actually work in one til I was 25. After moving to Baltimore with my NJ certification to be an art teacher, I did my usual and called every florist in the phone book. In the past they always just wanted people with experience and since I had none, it had remained just a dream. Though this time, I was hired and loved it immediately. After studying fine arts, interior design and art education, I found that floral design encompassed everything I loved to do. Since I was so passionate about it, I learned a lot very quickly and had my own shop open in just 3 short years.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a floral designer?
A: The craft! I love that what i do allows a tremendous amount of creativity but that working with flowers required the constraints of a craft. Unlike painting and sculpting alone, the craft is to make a bouquet, a boutonniere, a corsage, etc. And I'm always inspired to try the same thing a new way.

Q: Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
A: Wow, really everywhere. I watch a lot of wedding shows and read a lot of wedding and high-end floral design magazines. I love seeing the amazing abstract artwork they're doing with flowers in the Netherlands and then making it marketable here.

Q: What should a bride and groom expect in the design process, from start to finish?
A: Exactly that, that it is a process. They want to come in and get everything settled in their first visit. But then they have new ideas, and I have new ideas. I think they should be open to change as it needs to be made.

Q: What advice do you have for brides on a smaller floral budget to save money without sacrificing on overall style?
A: Sad to say, my advice has nothing to do with flowers. To get a lot of style pick some fabulous linens, or even overlays you can use over your venue's plain white linens and then add lots of candles. The color and patern of the linen will really help get the look across without having to do it all with the flowers.

Q: Where did you get the name Crimson & Clover?
A: I remember sitting and brainstorming with my brother and his partner about names. I definitely didn't want "Amy's Flowers", I needed something memorable that would also stand out as different, fun, and styled, and that would appeal to my target demographic of ages 20 and up. Everyone knows that song, whether its the version by Tommy James and The Shondells (who happens to be from Baltimore), or Joan Jett's interpretation...there's even a song by Jimmy Eat World called Crimson & Clover. And it's colors...crimson and clover. And two of my favorites at that!

I don't even know where to begin raving about Abigail Seymour's ShutterPROS Workshop in Greensboro, NC. I had such an amazing time meeting other photographers, and I came back with TONS of new ideas to try out! In the afternoon, we all headed outside to do a mock walk-through of a wedding with two of Abigail's upcoming clients. Wedding coordinator Leigh Pearce put together all the details, and I couldn't be more excited about how the pictures turned out!

Ked & Atresha: Engaged!

I was so excited when my good friends Ked and Atresha, who will be getting married next spring in sunny California, asked me to do engagement photos for them. Atresha is off on a trip to India to visit family soon who are anxiously awaiting photos of her future husband, so we spent a few hours around Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood (incidentally, one of my favorites) to get some photos of the two of them. I'm so glad they were good sports about the 100+ degree weather and humidity, and to look at their pictures you'd think it was a beautiful 72 degree day! Enjoy!

Kaitlyn & Chris: Engaged!

People often ask why I think engagement sessions are important, and include them with all my wedding packages. Kaitlyn and Chris' session was a perfect example of that. When they started their session, Kaitlyn and Chris were a bit camera shy. I learned some important things about them, like Kaitlyn loves jumping barefoot in the grass, and tends to blink at camera shutters. Likewise, Kaitlyn and Chris learned to relax in front of the camera, and by the end could be heard saying "this is so much fun, can we bring Meghan on all our dates?" We even had time to stop for a snowcone!

Kaitlyn and Chris, I'm so glad you had such a great time, even if you were a bit skeptical at first! I wish I could go on all your dates, but unfortunately I have to divide my time between all my clients (and it might get a bit old after awhile). As usual, enjoy some of my favorites!

Leah & Dzu: Sneak Peak!

I know I gush about all my clients on here, but I promise it's true! Leah and Dzu, the gorgeous couple from the new header on the blog, tied the knot yesterday in Annapolis. It was a whirlwind day! Leah wanted to get as many pictures done before the ceremony as possible, but she is a stickler for tradition, so Dzu's groomsmen came up with a funny solution - a blindfold! One of my favorite moments of the day came as Leah and her father headed out to the dance floor for their first dance. Leah asked her dad, "are you ready for this?" and, with a tear in his eye, he hesitated, and said "not really." He needn't worry though, these two are one of the happiest couples I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Leah and Dzu, thank you so much for letting me capture your day. I hope you're enjoying your honeymoon, and I wish you nothing but the best in your new life together. Enjoy a few sneak peaks!

Photos make a fantastic gift! This session was a newborn session bought as a gift for their mom Amber's baby shower. I may be a little biased, but I thought that was such a great idea, and something parents-to-be often forget on their long to-do lists before baby (or in this case, babies) arrive.

Although trying to get 2 babies to cooperate was a challenge, I had such a great time capturing these images. Just TRY looking at the picture of them linking arms (they did that on their OWN!) without saying "Awww!" I dare you.

A Vintage Affair

A Vintage Affair is an annual evening of fine wine and cuisine to benefit Children's National Medical Center. I was honored to be there as a dedicated team of volunteers, lead by Kathie Williams, the event's Executive Director, put together this fantastic event. A. Dominick Events acted as coordinators, putting the final finishing touches on the evening, while the team from Ace Beverage tended bar. The gorgeous centerpieces were designed by Sidra Forman, and the event was hosted by the Park Hyatt in Washington, D.C.

The gorgeous details put together by this fantastic team were only surpassed by the heartfelt emotion of the day. There were countless stories told that day by people whose lives had been touched by the doctors and staff of Children's National Medical Center. I have to admit to holding back tears on at least one occasion! Kathie, thank you for putting together such a gorgeous event, it could not have been for a better cause!

Audrey & Todd: Married!

She had me at Spanish Boots. If you know me well, you know that I am a shoe girl at heart. So when one of the first things Audrey told me about their wedding was that she was wearing Spanish boots with her dress, I was hooked.

Audrey and Todd had a beautiful wedding last weekend at Camp Puh'Tok. The Wayfarers set the tone for the reception, where guests enjoyed barbecue and sat by a blazing fire. It could not have been any more fun. Audrey and Todd, thank you for letting me be a part of your amazing day!

Not only are the flowers in bloom this spring, but so are my friends! I couldn't be happier for Ashley and Mike, who are expecting a baby boy this spring. Ashley has been absolutely glowing since she first spilled the news this fall, and I know they will make the most terrific parents! I'm so glad they let me follow them around Federal Hill park with my camera last weekend, and I can only hope I captured a fraction of their joy! Spring has sprung!

Spring means many things to many people. Around here it means wedding season has begun, lots of newborns (and soon to be newborns) to photograph, and waking up every day to find new unidentified blooms in our new backyard! Like so many others lately, we took advantage of the tax credit to buy our first home, which partly explains my absence around here as the Important Cord that connects my Camera to my Computer went missing amongst the pile of boxes (as did other important things like, the Blowdryer, and Pants). Don't you just love moving? But not to worry friends! My wonderful fiancee found the Important Cord in the box of Leftover Cords Whose Function We Can't Quite Remember, and we are back in business, so to speak.

In the meantime, along with all that unpacking, I've been busy shooting! Stay tuned for Justin and Clint's Vineyard wedding, Ashley and Mike's maternity session, and Audrey and Todd's Bluegrass wedding, and more!

Jamie & Vince: Engagement Session

Last weekend I got the chance to hang out with Jamie and Vince for their engagement session. Jamie suggested the Hotel Monaco in DC, which was a fantastic idea. Vince (like most grooms-to-be) wasn't quite convinced about the idea of an engagement photo session. At one point, while I was taking the photo of their reflection in the mirror, he said to Jamie, "she's taking a picture of the mirror - where did you find this girl?!" - which of course cracked me up. In the end, though, we all had a blast, and the Hotel Monaco made for an amazing backdrop, with tons of great spaces for taking photos. Jamie and Vince, thanks for being good sports, and I can't wait for your wedding in October!

Sneak Peak: Pippa and Pat

Last night, Pippa and Pat's closest friends and family dug themselves out from under record amounts of snowfall for this area to make the long drive to Rehobeth, Delaware, for their wedding. It is a testament to Pippa and Pat that so many of their friends and family did make it, despite the snow. Snowpocalypse 2.0

Tomorrow will likely bring shoveling while Baltimore digs itself out of this mess. In the meantime, we are very much snowed in, a term I will no longer use casually! It was a great chance for me to catch up on client e-mails, editing, and most importantly, take advantage of my dogs for a photo opportunity.

Meet Zoey. She is our four and a half year old cockapoo who behaves much like an angry teenager. She is really just biding her time with us until she saves up enough money to catch the next bus out of here. Of course, we are pretty much the Meanest Dog-Parents in history because we expect her to do things like move over so we can sit next to her on the couch, go on walks, and eat out of a dog dish (don't ask - I really don't have an explanation). So today in the midst of Snowpocalypse 2.0, I found Zoey sitting at the door, wanting to go outside. After an hour of watching her sit at the door and look back at me, all "Seriously Mom, there's a bus out there with my name on it. All the other kids are going," I finally caved and let her out. She lasted about 15 seconds, only putting 3 feet down in the snow at a time, before she turned around and made a beeline for the house.

Of course, I wouldn't be the Mean Dog-mom she thinks I am unless I took advantage of this torture as a photo opportunity. Enjoy!

The Many Faces of Miss Maggie (and her adorable sidekick Vivian)

I can't help but giggle every time I go back through these pictures. Having known Maggie for 2 years now, and little Vivian since she was born, I've been dying to have a session with them. So when their mom called and asked if I would take some holiday pictures for them, I was only too happy to oblige. Here are some of my favorites!

Maggie is a great big sister to Vivian. If she has any "flaw" as a big sister, it's that she sometimes loves with a little too much...enthusiasm. Here's the before picture:

Audrey & Todd: Engagement Session

Audrey and Todd are getting married in April, and I'm so excited to photograph their wedding. I always appreciate a bride with creative footwear, and one of the first details Audrey told me about their upcoming wedding was that she would be wearing cowboy boots under her dress! We had a great time meeting up for a sunrise engagement session at Robert E. Lee park in Mount Washington, which was also the scene of their first date. They are a fantastic couple, and balance each other out perfectly. Audrey kept trying to fix Todd's hair and smile perfectly, and Todd kept making silly faces and making Audrey laugh (and I have "out-takes" of both of these scenarios)! Audrey and Todd, thanks for being troopers and getting up early for a sunrise session. Enjoy your pictures!

Tom & Becky: Fall Bliss

I was recently honored to assist Rosey Puskas-Ragontse of Red Rose Photography in shooting Tom and Becky's wedding at the beautiful Tremont Grand. Despite the cool fall rain, everyone had a wonderful time. The flowers, by Crimson & Clover, were rich fall colors, and turned the ballroom into an elegant refuge from the rain outside. Elizabeth & Jeremy: Lifestyle Session!

Not only is Elizabeth a big fan of the Meghan Lynn Photography blog, she might be one of the hardest working people I know. In addition to a full-time day job, where she is a force to be reckoned with, she leaves work 4 nights a week to head to law school, where she's in her second year. So when Elizabeth asked me for a photo session with her and her husband Jeremy (who also has a full-time job and goes to graduate school), I was only too happy to oblige. We had a great time, meeting up at their beautiful new house, and then heading to downtown Annapolis. Here are a few favorites!

Lindsey & Greg: Trash the Dress!

Lindsey and Greg were married in a beautiful ceremony this summer at Swan Harbor Farm in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Lindsey must have the magic touch, because they had beautiful weather for their waterfront ceremony, and we lucked out with a beautiful day for their Trash the Dress session, after 4 solid days of rain. Thanks again to Crimson and Clover, who made the beautiful bouquet, and Linganore Winery, for letting us use their grounds. Here are some of my favorites from their session!

Jen and Adam Trash the Dress!

Jen and Adam met up with me for a Trash the Dress session a few weeks ago. We got a spectacular day - the fall leaves were at their peak and just look at those skies! They were so happy together and they were up for anything. I was especially excited when they agreed to jump in the pond for a few pictures - although I don't think Jen was expecting the splashing that followed! Sneak Peak: Trash the Dress!

This afternoon was the perfect afternoon for a Trash the Dress session with Jennifer and Lindsey. After several days of rain, the sun came out and we could not have had a more beautiful day! Many thanks to the girls for being brave enough to jump in a pond in their beautiful wedding dresses, and to their husbands who patiently indulged all of our crazy ideas. I think the end result was worth it!

Mattalie: A Waterfront Wedding

A few weeks ago I had the honor to shoot this beautiful wedding with Rosey Puskas-Ragontse of Red Rose Photography. Matt and Natalie (or, "Mattalie" as the sign on their sweetheart table read) were married on a sunny Saturday in October at Osprey Point on Maryland's Eastern Shore. I don't think they stopped smiling all day!

Not only did the waterfront provide a fantastic backdrop for pictures, but in a fun twist, Natalie rode in with her dad and bridesmaids on a boat. One of my favorite moments of the day was when Natalie, a nature enthusiast, grabbed a snake skin she found. Now, that is a first for me! Their waterfront ceremony was followed by a reception where their guests rocked out to favorites like Sweet Caroline. Congratulations Matt and Natalie!

Sarah and Steven: Should I fall behind, wait for me...

I recently had the opportunity to shoot Sarah and Steven's beautiful wedding at historic Savage Mill with Natalie Franke Photography. Sarah and Steven must have some serious luck, because their outdoor ceremony was held during the few brief hours of sun in an otherwise rainy weekend. One of my favorite parts of their beautiful ceremony was a reading that I recognized as the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by Bruce Springsteen. The chorus reads: "If as we're walking a hand should slip free, I'll wait for you, and should I fall behind, wait for me." It was a beautiful ceremony, and a beautiful day. As always, enjoy!

Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause.

Through our professional photographer network, we are helping breast cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the breast cancer patient. Clients participating in a Think Pink Session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. Sunshine on a cloudy day

The day I photographed this wonderful family, I had a serious case of the cloudy day blahs. Cloudy weather can make for beautiful portrait lighting, but it can also put your photographer in a serious funk. As soon as I arrived at their (beautiful) home, though, my mood picked up! This family is all giggles and joy, and even editing their pictures put a smile on my face. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did :)

Fun in the park

The Ovens were such a fantastic family to work with. Almost two weeks ago now, we held our collective breath and hoped that it wouldn't rain on our Saturday morning session. Sure enough, the rain held out, but the ground was still soggy from the night before. Not to be deterred, we decided to head down the street to the park, where I think we got some great shots of the whole family, and their two precious boys, Thomas and Will. This session was also memorable because I got Thomas' seal of approval for being "nice"!

Ice cream cones

When I was younger, I had a doll named Ice Cream Cone. It may seem like a strange name until you realize that I was instructed to "name her something you like." So naturally, Ice Cream Cone made perfect sense to my little toddler brain. To this day, ice cream cones are still the BEST summer treat. I recently had the chance to photograph this beautiful family and now I have ice cream cones on the brain. The boys were much more interested in finishing up with me so they could get their ice cream cones, and we even gave little Libby her very own, although she wasn't quite sure what to think about it!

City Chic!

Picking a location for portraits is a great way to add a personal touch to your images. For my friend Kimi's portrait session, we chose Fells Point and wandered down some of her favorite streets. We had a great time, got some really fun portraits, and as an added bonus got frozen yogurt at Mr. Yogato. If you enjoy these images half as much as I enjoyed my yogurt with raspberries and brownie crumbles, you're in for a treat!
